10:06 am - And now that I'm done wallowing in selfishness...
I'm going to have to begin stalking fedzgurl's writing. She's created such an incredibly perfect story for my Snupin Santa prompt!
Go read Oblivio Persona Inimicus Careo if you haven't already. Or read it a few more times like me ;)

I wrote A Game of You" for rufus. boogabooga_xx is a doll and betas at break-neck speed! *HUG*
I panicked (panic being the theme in my life for the past few months here) when I realized it was quite similar to "Fair Game" (the similar titles were completely coincidental) that was published in Chocolate and Asphodel. Speaking of which, both of those need to be posted...somewhere.

9:35 am - Alright, I'm here now...I think.
LJ-SEC refuses to let me transfer the posts from my LJ without downloading a new and spiffy program of some sort from Microsoft, so I finally worked up the momentum and began uploading each story individually. I then realized it was also an opportune time to start uploading them onto Moonshadow, and before I knew it, most of them were up (my eyes began to glaze over at around 11 though, because of this silly flu, so I had to stop. But the rest shouldn't be too bad)!

I caught up on sleep in a big way these past few days because I've been ill and have decided against taking morning shifts at the bookstore while teaching piano that same evening for 4 days in a row, and my consciousness cleared enough for me to realize that:

1. there are very few publishing houses where I am
2. application deadlines for publishing programs are Feb. 1
3. I don't really want to commit to the 2-year masters program here anyway
4. I write really long sentences

So I'm in a bit of a panicky mood. I just can't spend another year working two jobs, and yet there seem to be no fewer than a dozen publishing jobs up for grabs each year in this city (ok maybe I exaggerate o.o) between hundreds of people, many of which who have graduated from some type of program.
I made up a list of general anxieties than I was suffering last night, just in my mind, but decided against putting it down in word form; it'd be too overwhelming. One check-list item at a time, I suppose. *sighs*

current mood: anxious

You'll have to fill in the blanks in terms of the action, I'm afraid :)
Best wishes to you.

10:58 pm - Happy birthday, xterm!
"And what, may I ask, is that, Lupin?"

"Art, Severus."

"Doodling in the margins of my favourite book is hardly considered an art."

"I think the drawings make it considerably less boring."

"There is no possible way that you can make 'Advanced Potions Theory' any less boring."

"No need to sound so snippy, Severus. And for the record, I agree, but those were your words, not mine."

"..."

"Come now, pouting does not become you. Not to mention it's rather creepy."

"Lu-Remus, that is positively lewd!"

"Isn't it? I don't think I've captured the limbs quite right, that one should go over here..."

"...I am beginning to see the many advantages of art."

"Oh really?"

"Indeed. If you are willing, perhaps we might adjourn to the bedroom and try our hand at that one?"

"By all means, if you think yourself flexible enough."

"Try to keep up."

10:54 pm - [Fantasy Fest entry: Playing with Fire, Chapter 2 --PG]
Title: Playing with Fire, Chapter 2
Author: [info]firefly_quill
Word Count: 2589
Rating: PG
Pairing(s)/character(s): SS/RL
Summary: The Unexpected Task (You know the one)
Disclaimer: J.K. Rowling owns. I simply play.
Warnings: Swearing and underaged drinking? O.o Oh, and bad French. Also, particular chapter doesn't end in a fluffy-happy manner.
Notes: Many apologies to [info]ollopa and anyone else who has been waiting >.< For some reason I just couldn't piece it together even though I had the plot laid out. Further apologies on the un-beta'd-ness and the disjointed nature of the fic. I think the next chapter will be a short one, so that shouldn't take too long (I hope)

10:47 pm - Drabble for morbid_lizard!
There was a crash of glass as the door opened, like someone had dropped their drink.

Remus looked up from the passionate kiss (in which he was currently entangled) confusedly. He had Severus. He had the wine. There wasn't supposed to be anyone or anything else in this dream.

Severus looked up more slowly, eyelids heavy from the liquor. He blinked sleepily several times. Looking down at the bottle in his hand, he shook it a few times, nearly falling over with the effort. Luckily, Remus was there to catch him. He looked up again towards the door.

"It would appear," he drawled carefully, in an attempt to stop himself from stumbling over the words. "that we are out of wine."

Harry screamed and slammed the door behind him.

Edit: Here's the picture that she drew that inspired the drabble:

10:42 pm - [Fantasy Fest Fic: Playing with Fire (G so far)]
*sheepish* School evidently got the better of me for the past month or so (and still technically does). Many apologies to [info]ollopa for the tardiness and the un-beta'd-ness!

Title: Playing with Fire
Author: [info]firefly_quill
Rating: G
Word count: 1495
Pairing: SS/RL
Challenge: Based on [info]ollopa's prompt: AU - triwizard tournament during MWPP era, either S or R is picked by goblet to everyone's shock; one of the tasks involves S or R rescuing the other (like Harry's 2nd task but not the same, plz) to everyone's shock (again). post SB's prank!
Summary: Task the first.
Disclaimer: J.K. Rowling owns. I simply play.
Warnings: I think I'm bordering on "Gary-Stu"-Snape, which should be an interesting read in following chapters. Hopefully I can change this before it gets too far O_o I get the distinct feeling that this is going to be a strange fic, and I can't quite figure why.
Notes: 1/? (3 is what I have planned)

Remus awoke that morning aching and too aware of several voices whispering loudly beside him. )

I have a stack of marking that piles higher each day, 3 lessons to plan, and a date tomorrow, which is likely why the plot bunny attacked. Completely un-beta'd and embarassingly unpolished.

Title: Honesty in All Things
Pairing: RL/SS
Rating: G
Word Count: 751
Warnings: Some HBP spoilers if you squint.
Disclaimer: Not mine. Just playing.
Summary: Remus has a job interview.

Remus was secretly terrified of job interviews )

10:41 pm - Snupin Fantasy Fest entry --PG
It turned out twice as long as my next longest story. I am still in shock.
Let's play "See you if you can find the lines firefly shamelessly stole from Pride and Prejudice"!

Title: Trial and Tribulation
Pairing: RL/SS of course
Rating: PG (sorry)
Word Count: 4296
Warnings: HBP spoilers
Summary: Based on the prompt left by the beautiful [info]xochiquetzl -- Post-war, SS in prison. RL realizes SS innocent during trial; springs him. H/C a plus; mainly want R to go to extremes to help S.
Notes: I am so very obliged to [info]cho_sa and [info]vibishan for beta-ing at break-neck speed and catching all my embarrassing plot holes and grammar errors! Thank you both :)

10:07 pm - Happy Birthday, McKay!
Happy Birthday my dear!
Thank you for organizing the Snupin Santa Exchange and for all the other amazing things that you've done for the fandom!

This fic got away from me a bit, I think. This is a bit rushed as well, my apologies :(
I always think of Alpha!Remus when I hear Sarah McLachlan's "Possession", so here's my first attempt at portraying him.

Title: Possession
Pairing: RL/SS
Rating: R
Word Count: 2107 plus lyrics, 1890 without them. I love the "word count" function on MSWord
Warnings: This turned out a bit darker than I had anticipated, but I'm hoping the sappiness makes some sort of balance!

9:33 pm - Ficlet: Mother Knows Best -- RL/SS -- G
My days off end up as busy as my days at school or work. Likely only because I let the chores pile up while doing the latter :P
Plot bunnies also seem to enjoy visiting me during the direst moments, which actually ends up keeping me sane. On that note, time for fluff.

Title: Mother Knows Best
Pairing: RL/SS
Rating: G
Word Count: 686
Summary: Remus is left waiting in Severus' office while picking up Wolfsbane one night.
Warning: Plotless, mindless, predictable, but kind of cute.

Rated: Light R
Word Count: 1,560
Warnings: Implied sex and lots of thinking, but not really graphic enough.
Notes: Written for <lj-user="schemingreader"> for the 2005 Snupin Santa, who requested a plausibly happy post-HBP fic, and Occlumency/Legilimency as a plot/p0rn enhancer. I wasn't sure whether I'd be able to do either of those effectively, so I tried to do both.

The rain didn’t usually bother Severus; it was no worse than the sun for the tasks at hand. Tonight, however, it was maddening, because he had nothing to do. The Dark Lord, in all his mercy, had decided his new favourite had earned a little respite from the action, which unfortunately left Severus alone with his thoughts.

The rain did little to help. It pounded relentlessly against the roof, overpowering the words of the book that he had attempted to read, which now sat on the table in defeat. It drew Severus’ attention to the last time he had been unable to escape his contemplations, the night before he had killed Dumbledore. It drew his attention to Remus Lupin, with whom he had been playing chess.

The hatred that he bore the man finally reached its breaking point after Severus cost him his job at Hogwarts. Remus had showed up at his door one summer evening and they had a rather cathartic confrontation. By confrontation, Severus meant that he had screamed mercilessly at Remus for 3 hours while the werewolf listened attentively, occasionally correcting him and offering his apologies. When Severus ran out of insults, he realized that he had also lost interest in leveling them at Lupin. The two had got on smashingly after.

Which became a problem, because Severus never got on smashingly with anyone. It made him uncomfortable. By the beginning of next school year, he and Remus had become good acquaintances, and Severus found that the idea of talking to Remus was no longer repulsive. By the end of that year, they had become very good friends and Remus frequently visited Severus for the sake of platonic conversation. Platonic meaning that Remus, who had a natural ability and love of telling stories, would speak amiably and Severus would listen and occasionally respond, while pretending to be mildly irritated. By the end of Harry’s 5th year at Hogwarts, Severus had fallen in love.

Which was also a problem, because if Severus had never got on smashingly with anyone, he most definitely, with greatest certainty never fell in love. Before. The way of the world had always gotten in the way, and it appeared that it would happen again. There was the fact that Remus had never once shown any indication of being interested in men. There was also Tonks, whose infatuation with Remus became more irritating and hex-worthy by the hour. Most damning, perhaps, was the fact that by the end of the next school year, Severus had killed Albus Dumbledore, the only man who had ever believed in him. It wasn’t easy. Actually, it was bloody difficult. But in his last moments, Albus had appealed to Severus with the same saddened eyes as when they had last spoken. He never could refuse the Headmaster anything.

And so he sat, in his dank excuse of a living room, firewhisky in hand, because there was no better way, or perhaps, no other way, to drown his sorrows, and because the rain refused to let him do anything else.

And then a knock came at the door. Thinking, in relief, that the Dark Lord had a task for him, Severus nevertheless approached the door with wand in hand. He hadn’t counted on finding Remus on the other side. He hesitated for a moment. Idleness once again proved to be a dangerous thing to Severus Snape, however, as he found himself opening the door. Sometimes, he thought wryly, there was just nothing better to do. Nor was he ever one to deny curiosity, and the man’s appearance at his door certainly evoked that.

“Did you do it?” Remus asked abruptly. The words were spoken without anger, which both intrigued and surprised Severus greatly. He had fully expected to be dodging a slew of hexes. Their absence left him speechless, which was in itself an answer.

“Why?” This was asked in the same manner. It was beginning to unnerve Severus. He was unaccustomed to hearing such conviction in the man’s voice. He stepped backwards as Remus stepped resolutely towards him, still unable to answer. Severus didn’t notice that they were both completely inside until Remus shut the door with a wave of his wand and stopped advancing.

They locked gazes for what seemed like hours.

Finally Severus remembered himself. “I find myself disinclined to answer the demands of those who forcibly enter my house. I would have assumed that you knew me better.”

“I thought I did.” Was the soft reply.

“I am a spy, Lupin. Excuse me if clarity is not my forte.” Severus frowned. “Why have you come? Really?”

“I find myself disinclined to answer those who blatantly refuse to answer me.”

“It would appear that we are at an impasse then.” Severus replied silkily. He was slowly beginning to realize that opening the door might not have been the wisest decision, but was nonetheless intrigued by the man’s visit. His house was not an easy one to find. In fact, Severus thought it near impossible to locate. Evidently it was not.

“It would appear so.” The bloody werewolf continued to meet Severus’ gaze evenly. Snape found himself unable to turn away.

“Fortunately, one of us has the ability to get us out of this little predicament.” Remus realized too late which one of them it was.

“Legilimens!”

Remus was thrown against the door from the force of the spell. Severus dove swiftly through the man’s mind, knowing that he did not have much time. He didn’t quite find what he was looking for.

There were no visions depicting Lupin’s desire to see Severus dead on the floor, wand raised above the Potion Master’s head. Nor were there visions of Order meetings that described Remus’ appointment as spy against him.

There was panic, most certainly. The deeper Severus ventured, the more he began to believe that this fear related to him in some way. He began to lose focus.

Is it too late? It can’t be too late.

He didn’t do it. He couldn’t have.

He did. Why? Who made him?

It’s too late. It can’t be. I never told him. He never knew.

“No!”

Severus staggered backwards, only faintly aware that he and Remus had spoken the last word he had drawn from the man’s mind together. Remus grabbed for his wand, but Severus already had his at the ready.

“Legilimens!”

”It’s suicide, you can’t go!”

“If he is on our side, he won’t hurt me, Harry.”

“And if he isn’t?”

Remus gave the boy a strange smile.

“Then the rest does not matter to me anyway.”

The images and words were whirling again, until Severus found himself staring at his own door.

Here. Finally. So long. Is he hurt? Safe? Safe. Merlin, don’t let him die. He can’t die.

Severus realized at this moment that the one thing that he could not resist was love. It was what Voldemort had offered, what Dumbledore gave, and it had been what Remus Lupin had been feeling just minutes before knocking.

Before he could process this, he felt a force pushing back. Suddenly they were in his mind. They were in Dumbledore’s study the night the Headmaster had asked Severus to do what he thought had to be done to further the efforts of the Order, even if it meant killing him. They were reliving the murder, the deep regret still poignant in the Headmaster’s eyes, eating at Severus’ soul. And they saw Snape seated in his arm chair, swirling the liquor glass, musing about the many ways he had failed Remus Lupin. And now the man knew.

He opened his eyes to find himself slumped against the far wall, facing Remus. He didn’t realize that his eyes were wet until the tears slid unceremoniously off his nose. Remus crawled towards him.

Severus felt as though the werewolf deserved an explanation. “I...for so long I’ve...”

“I know. I saw.” Remus smiled warmly, moving a little closer. “Perhaps you might like to try once more?”

It was an invitation. No one had ever invited Severus to share in their thoughts.

“Legilimens.” Severus penetrated Remus’ thoughts again, and found images of the man leaning closer, slowly, hesitantly, as though the act had been contemplated often but never fulfilled. He saw Remus draw nearer still, pausing right before their lips met, and then capturing Severus’ breath with his own. It was the real kiss that brought Snape back to reality, the passionate, hungry, impatient touch of Remus’ lips to his own. Severus allowed himself to float back into Remus’ mind, moaning softly in surprise as he discovered that he not only felt his own warmth and arousal, but also Remus’ as well. Remus clearly also felt this connection, as the scene slowly faded. Severus now saw himself buried deep inside the man, as Remus grasped at him tightly, screaming for release. And so he obliged.

They awoke the next morning on the floor, naked, entangled in each other’s arms. There they lay for what seemed like an eternity, neither wanting to break the silence. Finally Severus spoke.

"You cannot sta—"

“I know.” Remus answered. He looked up into Severus’ eyes. “Come with me.”

Severus held the gaze for a moment and then smiled. He had never been much with words. Fortunately, he found that with Remus, he needed very few.

9:32 pm - Contest fic dump
Finally, time to breathe. I'm a little frustrated because I seem to have lost a plot bunny that I remembered liking, but surely it will come back to me later. Until then, to prove that I do not exclusively write Snupin (frightening, no?), here's a random collection of fics that I've written for various challenges.

Title: Untitled
Genre: Humour
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: PG-13
Word count: Exactly 100
Challenge: Drabble Prompt: "Unbreakable bonds". *giggle*

*snip* )

Title: Red Ambition
Genre: Gener..ic?
Pairing: None.
Rating: G
Word count: 546
Challenge: Describe the sorting of one of the villains in the series. I scrambled to finish this one, and I can't help but think it seems unpolished.

'Bellatrix Black' )

Title: Mary, She Might Sue!
Genre: Humour
Pairing: None.
Rating: G
Word count: 978
Challenge: Purposely inject a Mary Sue into a plot of your own device. I apologize in advance :P

Albus Dumbledore had one additional comment to make after the sorting ceremony. )

Whew. I need sleep.

9:20 pm - Fic: A Dislike of Candy (G)
Real life has me tied in knots at the moment, between teaching and work (which entails more teaching :P)
Which is partially why this Halloween story is 4 days late. Sigh. Last seen in a Hogsmeade Elite contest.

Title: A Dislike of Candy
Pairing: SS/RL
Rating: G
Word Count: 579
Summary: Severus hates Halloween. He would, wouldn't he? A little OOC and a lot of crack.

9:18 pm - Fic: A dish best served cold (pg-13)
I was going to enter this one in a challenge at a Harry Potter community, but my internet died the weekend it was to be submitted. The challenge asked that I amend HBP to support a ship of my choice by taking an actual line from the book and creating an alternate ending. I would like to add at this point, that I am not a vindictive person. *smiles sweetly*

Contains HBP spoilers. Please read at your own risk.

Title: A Dish Best Served Cold
Length: 850
Genre: Humor
Pairing: Tonks/?
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Suggestive, but not explicit (as always, no?)
Disclaimer: All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. I simply dream.

9:42 pm - Fic: Of Wolves and Boggarts RL/SS
Sort of for Cliché month at [info]lupin_snape, although I'm not sure whether it qualifies, as it doesn't really deal with a popular cliché, and even if it was one, I sort of spin it around (The fic is better written than that last sentence, I promise think.)

Title: Of Wolves and Boggarts
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Rating: PG
Warnings: It's un-beta'd :P
Summary: Remus is still a Marauder at heart. And surely Snape can survive just one more April Fool's prank?
Disclaimer: (I keep forgetting to write these) J.K. Rowling owns all, I just dream.

(Yay for last minute titles )

9:16 pm - Fic: Will and Last Testament (Coda Secondo)
My apologies, I know I said that I would post this earlier. I'm beginning to think that I should write grocery-store romance novels. This one's far fluffier than the first. Let me know what you think of it :)

Title: Last Will and Testament, Coda Secondo
Pairing: SS/RL
Word Count: 1059
Summary: The second of two possible outcomes to Remus' quest to save Severus' life.
Chapter Rating: PG-13
Category: Drama
